Poetry crystallized into images: this is an apt description of Sigefride Bruna Hautman’s work. Since the 1980s, Hautman has developed a rich and multifaceted oeuvre encompassing not only sculpture, but also reliefs, installations, videos, collages and text-based works. Recurring themes, such as social indignation, existential questions and interpersonal relationships, form the connective thread in her practice. Her work constantly oscillates between language and imagery, the personal and the collective, the physical and the symbolic.
Published in conjunction with the most comprehensive solo exhibition to date, organized by M Leuven, this first monograph on Hautman’s work showcases the breadth of her oeuvre and provides a context for her artistic practice through visual and archival material. It features essays by Valerie Verhack, Melanie Bühler and Luk Lambrecht, a conversation between Patrizia Dander and Sigefride Bruna Hautman, and a personal contribution by the artist herself.
